It’s funny how incredibly popular the Scandinavian interiors are at the moment. It’s really a craze I think. But for how long? I mean, who doesn’t love the simplicity of a Scandinavian interior? The clean lines, the craftsmanship and muted palettes seem very simple but when you put them all together, you have a very powerful combination. So, how do you do that? Decorate your home like a Scandinavian? I share my tips below.
How to style your interior like a Scandinavian?
#1 Create a white base
The best tip for a Scandinavian interior is to create a white base. This means white walls, ceilings and floors. A white base will make your home feel bright, bigger but also calm. Besides that, with a white base it’s easy to change your decoration every season, you never get tired of it and it goes with everything.
#2 Buy pieces you really love
When you want to buy new furniture and decoration, invest in something that you really, really really love. Also make sure you won’t get tired of it after only a few months. Choose well-made furniture that are built to last, if possible. If you are thinking about buying a few key pieces, you should consider spending more on them. For example, a beautiful sofa, a kitchen table, a rug or a piece of art.
#3 Get rid of all the clutter
Getting rid of things you don’t need or use in your home is the best thing you can do. It feels so good to have less things and it also looks so much better. Instead of seeing all the stuff around your home, it’s better to let the decoration take place instead. This also makes your home more personal. It will take a little rearranging but it’s definitely worth it.
#4 Pick a theme
The best thing you can do is to pick a design theme that you love. Make sure the theme runs through your entire interior so it will pull everything together. As long as you keep to the theme, you can add in pieces when you feel like it.
#5 Keep it simple
Simplicity means for me the same as beauty. A gorgeous, sleek and minimal interior brings mystery to a space. If you really want to do this, it’s important that you set the table using simple base products to ensure a clear expression. They don’t have to be expensive.
#6 Use various textures
You can use as many different textures as you want, as long as they come from the same tonal family. If you mix too many textures, it will be too much. If you choose for the white base, pick natural colors that will blend together.
