What can I tell you about Picton? We’ve only been here for 2 hours because we suddenly got a good offer to take the ferry and we couldn’t resist that. Besides, the next day it would start to rain so why not leave the South Island now?
Picton is the place where you can catch the ferry to the North island of New Zealand. It is a town in the beautiful region called Marlborough with gorgeous sounds. Sounds are inlets / bays of water from the ocean into the land.
This view is from the 10th floor of the ferry on the Interislander. Big boat with lots of facilities because you have to spend at least 3 hours on this thing. The first 1,5 hour, that takes you through the sounds of Picton, was calm and easy but when we hit the open water, a small storm was setting up. We could feel the wind and rain, and even on a boat this big, it still does move a lot.
From the beautiful sunny Picton to the rainy Wellington. Picton is great to stay for a while, drink coffees, enjoy the scenery, maybe catch a water plane or a sailing boat out into the sounds. You can spend your money on adventure stuff in New Zealand pretty well.
Safe travels, Claudia
PS: we found a Dutch bakery here! Unfortunately it was closed on Sundays and Mondays.
