The west coast of New Zealand is a bit rough. After being at the glaciers, it could be a bit normal and just a coast but if you look closely, it still looks very beautiful. Espeically when you drive up to the Pancake Rocks.. but over about those in a few days ;-)
There are lots of gorgeous spots around the west coast where you can enjoy the nature. Stop at a few lakes and try and find a kiwi bird. When you stay on DOC campgrounds you will often see them or the Weka bird. These birds, that sort of look like a weird chicken, are very tame and want to have all the food you’ve got.
We stopped at a few places to take pictures, to have a lunch and to stay for the night but the best has yet to come; the pancake rocks. Between the glaciers and the pancake rocks is lots of nothing. So drive on and wait and see how amazing those rocks are :-)
Safe travels, Claudia
